THE ESTATE
The estate is nestled in the Manora Range of Kumaon Hills. It was originally acquired and developed in the 1890s by a French lady, Madam Jeanne Mathilde Emilie Le Pelerine Durell. The Manora includes a mountaintop with spectacular 360 degree views of both Bhumiadhar and Jeolikote valleys. Rain in one valley and sunshine on the other is a common sight during Monsoons. On clear days, the views stretch all the way to the foothills of Haldwani! This is also one of the last remaining stretches of Oak trees in Kumaon. The trees are known for their ability to purify air, make the climate colder and store water. Amidst the trees, there are two old Bungalows, one of which has been lovingly restored and converted to a boutique homestay, called The Manora.
